Are you fascinated by the Universe? Would you like to contribute to the International Year of Astronomy 2009? One of the goals of IYA2009 is for people to experience the excitement of personal discovery like Galileo did when he looked through his first telescope and saw the details of lunar craters, the moons of Jupiter and other celestial wonders.

Whether you are a newcomer or an astronomy enthusiast, here are some ideas for how you can participate in the International Year of Astronomy 2009, celebrating 400 years since Galileo began observing the heavens through his telescope.
Join your local astronomy society and find out what they're planning.
Find out what other events are happing offer your support and assistance.
Take part in IYA2009 programs.
Do research in astronomy or related sciences (guidance is provided through our association).
Societies/Clubs (school based/public)
Register your school based society/club with the “Network of School Astronomical Network”.
Affiliate your astronomy society/club with our association to collaborate possible programs for IYA2009.
Organize and run an event or project through your society/club.
Teachers
Take part in special teacher training program.
Join your local astronomy society and find out what they're planning.
Find out what other events are happing and offer your support and assistance.
Visit the Colombo Planetarium with your class.
